BIO
Stelio Banze (b. Mozambique) is a photographer based in Pasadena, California. His practice examines identity and the intersections between personal history and cultural narratives. Drawing from his experience as an African artist, Banze creates work that explores identity, belonging, and the ways identity is carried through people, landscapes, and material. His projects combine portraiture, landscape photography and abstraction to explore themes of transformation and the ongoing construction of self.
Alongside his studio practice, Banze has worked as a freelance photographer for six years, producing commercial, editorial, and portrait imagery while continuing to expand his research-based artistic practice. His broader interests extend to education and community engagement, exploring how art education centers, galleries, and other community-based art hubs can foster resilience within communities.
